Learning to steal

IF THE Republicans truly stole the presidential election, I say congratulations. They finally got smart. They've been letting the Democrats steal elections for years.

An extra 10 minutes

THE SPEAK Out comments regarding the school opening early have really gotten ridiculous. No one wants his child to go to school in the evening or to stuff his kid through a night-deposit window. The people in the community just ask for a simple extra 10 minutes. And the school board is unresponsive to their needs, for whatever reason.

Poor coverage

In Feb. 17 edition of the Missourian, the governor's health initiatives for women were on Page 3 of the paper. In the same edition, a refund due to Casino Aztar and an article about Jack Oliver being director of the Republican National Committee made the front page. I believe most readers would have been more interested in health concerns for women than knowing about the Casino Aztar and Jack Oliver. To me, this shows that the Missourian is really not all that interested in health issues for women.

He's still the best

I'D LIKE to comment about all the attacks on former President Clinton. If the Republicans aren't holding someone's feet over a fire, they just aren't satisfied. They didn't go after people like Reagan and Bush, the people who did real damage to this country. I'm surprised that after all the attacks on him and all the interference in everything he tried to accomplish, Clinton still wound up being the best president I can remember since I was a little kid.

For our protection

TO THE people having trouble with damaged mail coming from overseas: Do you really think the post office has time to open your mail? They process thousands of pieces of mail a day. Letters are processed through machines. They do jam, and I'm sure it rips the paper. Do you realize that all mail and packages from overseas go through customs? Customs can open packages and inspect them. It's not done to be nosy. It's done for our protection.

No dumping, please

I JUST read the article about the Ecstasy tablets. I take great offense at Sgt. Kevin Glaser's comment that he feels he's reached his goal if he runs the druggies across the river. I live across the river, and I don't appreciate that statement. We don't want Missouri's druggies -- or dogs or the trash that they dump over here either. So you take care of stuff on your side of the river. We'll take care of stuff on ours.

More divisiveness

DAVID LIMBAUGH'S ex-tremist conservative diatribes never cease to amaze me. In his efforts to pander to the unthinking masses of readers of his editorial column, he frequently assumes a paternalistic, self-righteous, omniscient posture. His recent comparison of liberal elements in our society to Stalinist and Nazi regimes unwittingly placed him alongside those same leaders who have contributed to divisiveness and hatred in their respective societies. David's columns exude intolerance and demagoguery, and his repeated condemnations of people who have opinions that differ from his own contribute nothing toward moving our community to unity and understanding. It only fans the flames of intolerance and suggests that he doesn't support the idea of diversity of opinions in our great nation.
