IN other communities, cancer screening days are offered where you can get screened for all kinds of cancer, all in one day and only take one day off from work. One of our hospitals should get a head start and have a cancer screening day. Insurance will pay for it now.
HAVING just read the final article on Lucky Sands, I can relate to the pain the family went through. I have a nephew who has served our country three times -- twice with the Marines and once with the Army. He came home the last time with shrapnel in his head, hearing loss and vision loss. He's been back and forth to the hospitals. He's now on total military disability. He has extreme acid reflux and cannot get the VA to approve medication. This is absolutely ridiculous how these soldiers are treated.
IT is clear that smoking is our nation's most serious and widespread drug addiction problem. It is a great waste of resources and weakens our collective national health. Every patriotic American should support every reasonable effort to discourage its use. All this talk about freedom and individual rights is a ruse, just a smoke screen.
IF over half of the United States has already gone smoke-free, then how can it be bad for our economy? Why don't we join the 21st century, rather than sticking our heads in the sand and acting as if secondhand smoke is not a health-related issue.
I think the recent Speak Out comment was nitpicking about one person throwing a cigarette butt out a window. Now if someone empties a whole ashtray, that's a whole different story.
TO the person who said we need a museum at Capaha Park, we already have a museum. Please visit the River Campus. It is truly amazing. We have already what you are requesting.
