Fire rescue

THANK you to all the people of God for helping my daughter and my grandchildren when my daughter ran out of her house with her babies in her arms at 3 or 4 a.m. one day as her house was severely burned. She ran back in to get her five-year-old son. A truck driver then helped her. The Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the family from Jackson or Marble Hill that rented a really nice house, and all others too -- God bless everyone for helping my precious daughter and my precious grandchildren.

Deer comments

I'M getting really tired of the uninformed and emotional comments about the proposed in-town deer hunt. No one is proposing that the deer population be totally wiped out in a Pol Pot style massacre. Their numbers will be thinned in a very controlled and safe manner. There will still be a deer population in town, and the ones that are left will be better fed and healthier with less chance of spreading disease. This method has been used with great success in towns all across the country; there is no reason it won't work here.

Obama is stealing

THE caller who compared Obama to Robin Hood did, as a second caller claimed, hit the nail on the head. Yes, Obama is like Robin Hood in that he is attempting to help the poor by taking from the rich. More importantly, though, is that they are both alike in that what they are doing is morally and legally wrong. It's called stealing. That's why Robin Hood had to hide out in the woods. It's a shame Obama doesn't have to do the same.

Cape's potholes

REGARDLESS of whether you drive a clunker or a good car, nobody should have to avoid potholes in Cape Girardeau. We have $20,000 lying around to conduct a survey and money for bicycle lanes so the bikers know where to ride their bikes. The city needs to realize who's paying the taxes -- the drivers of the cars, not two percent of the population.

Perryville driving

PEOPLE, young and old, drive too fast on Perryville Road near the golf course. That is why there are so many wrecks. Slow down, put two hands on the wheel and keep your eyes on the road.

Annexation benefits?

JUST wondering, has anyone out there heard any positive reasons that the city of Jackson would want to annex the quarries at Fruitland? I don't know that I've ever heard any benefits to it from any of the officials in Jackson. Just wondering if there are any.

Dress code

THIS dress code idea is about as bad as the ideas coming out of Washington.

Deer herd

THE person who wrote about seeing a herd of 13 deer and saying they don't gang up in the wild is wrong. I have owned a farm, and where corn has been shelled I've seen as many as 18 in a small area at one time. So they do gang up in the wild.
