Transportation costs

IT should be cheaper to take public transportation to work and back than it is to own a car. Not the other way around.

Sex allegations

THIS should change now if not sooner. Missouri is one of a handful of states not requiring educators to report allegations of sex abuse within their institutions directly to the police.

Industry CPI

BUSINESS people may want to know the consumer price index of each part of the private sector: utilities, gasoline, restaurant, food industry. It would show how the money would flow through the economy. It would ship to different portions between each part of the private sector.

Urban hunting

I think it is ridiculous for people to complain about the deer population eating their shrubs and rose bushes when the deer were here long before we were. If you don't want the deer in your backyard, quit putting out feeders; quit getting bags of corn and dumping it in your backyard so deer will come to your yard. I think this hunting deer in the city limits is quite stupid.

Mike Matheny

I am reserving judgment for now. If the St. Louis Cardinals win the World Series again in 2012, I will express strong support for hiring Mike Matheny as manager.

Paterno story

JOE Paterno followed the letter but not the spirit of the rule at Penn State. When he realized, as he surely did, that nothing had been done about the abuse allegation, he should have contacted the police. The Speak Out caller who defended Paterno owes the Speak Out readership a public apology.

Presidential race

WELL, we sure don't have much running for president. I am thinking a housewife who can manage her husband and her family and her home would be the perfect candidate. And it's not Michelle Obama, and it's not Sarah Palin. But I am praying that someone will step forward who will stand for something and will help America stand strong once again.

Get house in order

I think it's somewhat ironic that the President of the United States and the Secretary of the Treasury are applying pressure to Italy to get its fiscal house in order. However, in our country the President will not allow any budget cuts to take place. I think it's just a little bit ironic that we don't get our own house in order.

Congressional votes

YOU could save a lot of space when you publish the congressional votes. Just list the proposed legislation and then publish that all Democrats voted Yes or No and Republicans the opposite way.

THE Republican candidates for the presidency need to appear on TV as a group and collectively apologize to the American people for having the temerity to run.
