Christmas giving

SOON shopping for Christmas gifts will begin and we will spend $500 billion on each other in our country. Somehow we link celebrating the birth of Christ with wastefulness that he would deplore. Please consider showing your children and friends what generosity can really mean by giving to charities, donating your time and giving only necessities rather than gifts that will only last a short time. Set a goal for maybe a fourth or half of your spending budget on Christmas to go to those who are really in need.

Limbaugh column

NEO-BRITISH colonialist David Limbaugh plumbed new depths of naiveté with his recent passage that " ... the ultimate justification for retaining the [British] empire was the benefits it brought to the governed." That's jaw dropping, even for Mr. Limbaugh.

System doesn't work

Wage gap

THE elderly are 47 times more wealthy than those younger than 35. This is a record wage gap. The conservative message to those younger than 35 is simple: Work harder.

Greece, Missouri

THE Greek government is just a little less dysfunctional than Missouri's state government.

Expensive elections

THEY speak about how expensive the campaigns are today. Why in the world don't they do away with the primary? What do we need that for? And as far as our registered voting cards, they can cut the expenses there just by using our photo ID and driver's license.

Passing lane

I have no problem with people driving under the speed limit. But if you are going to, please get out of the passing lane so others can go around you.
