We need to support the Cape Fire Department on the November ballot by renewing the fire sales tax. I was impressed to hear that the fire department responds to almost all calls within 5 minutes; if I have a stroke or heart attack, or my house is on fire, every second counts; I don't mind paying 1/8 of 1 cent on what I buy in Cape to have this lifesaving service. We don't want to go back to where Cape was before this tax first passed in 2004, with 20-plus-year-old fire trucks and hand-me-down equipment. I look forward to voting for this renewal, to provide our firefighters with what they need to keep helping Cape Girardeau.
Vet's and Fallen Heroes Poker Run: I would like to send out a huge thank you to all involved in Saturday's Poker Run. This was the largest one yet and without all your help and support we could not have done this. We had 114 bikes this year and had one couple traveled 1,261 miles this year to make our run. We would like to thank the venue that hosted us this year, and all the businesses that donated to our silent auction, and the organizations that made private donations, along with all the vendors who came out to make this a huge success. All the Veterans who could make it that day along with all the people who came out to help support our Vets. The list is huge but know we want you all to know we could not have made it without you all. Thank you all, and we hope to see you again next year. God Bless you all.
Let's postpone spending money on water slides and other new projects until Cape's city management corrects the huge backlog of unrepaired streets. Some damaged streets marked in 2013 are still not repaired and winter is coming.
