Ethanol slowdown

SCOTT CITY does not need to worry about having three ethanol plants on Nash Road. It's not going to happen. The ethanol craze is slowing down. There might even be an oversupply in the Midwest because you can't get oil shipped to the East Coast and the West Coast where it's needed.

Fun in Commerce

WE WENT to the Commerce Flood Fest for a nice fall drive. The museum was interesting. We ate at the local Methodist church with a chicken and dumpling meal complete with dessert and drink. What friendly people they were. We visited the church where there was such nice music playing on the organ. A nice teenage boy said to take a pamphlet that would describe the church's history, which was so interesting. While my husband watched the mule races, I listened to good country music. It was a relaxing afternoon. Be sure to go next year for a good place to spend time with friends.

Home-grown singer

SOMEONE SAID there will not be another Lou Hobbs who was raised locally. True. But have you heard of Leroy Eftink from Oran? He plays a lot around the area. He had a kidney transplant years ago and can't work manually, but he's a great singer.

Garbage and taxes

I THINK that everybody in Cape Girardeau should go to the next council meeting and tell the council members we're tired of them spending our money. The sanitation workers went by the house this morning picking up everybody's garbage. My garbage was in the back alley. They said they have to have a special truck to come around and get all the alleys. That is spending a lot of taxpayers' money when all they have to do is walk up the alley. No wonder our taxes are so high.

Welcome, Whoopi

I AM so glad that Barbara Walters put Whoopi Goldberg on "The View." She is absolutely fantastic. She's a bright addition on that show because she speaks what she thinks.

Too coincidental

ISN'T IT a huge coincidence that there is going to be a vote for a new tax for Cape Girardeau's parks and suddenly there are problems with the bubble at Central Pool. Voters, don't put up with the farce that our parks department is trying to pull. Vote no.
