Facebook hype

WHY all the hype over Facebook? You join it voluntarily. There is no reason why the government needs to be involved. If people don't like it, they should cancel it.

Health care costs

IT is a cardinal sin to see how fast health care costs are rising. I wish the Affordable Care Act would kick in sooner so that we can begin to get these costs under control.

Piano lounge

WE have a lot of bars in town but we don't have a lounge. Cape Girardeau needs a piano lounge for the older people.

Rebuilding levee

I noticed in the paper where they're going to bring the levee back up to 61 feet over at Birds Point. I wonder if there's been any thought made that they ought to keep the levee below that point so it will not flood the railroad track and the highway over in Wickliffe, Ky., because that makes a terrible thing.

Low income housing

DON'T panic. Cape Girardeau can still be an impressive Potemkin village even if we have a big low-income housing project. So as to impress the various emperors and kings who tour our town, build the facade of the low-income housing in lavish fashion so as to give the impression its housing for people who migrated here from the Hamptons.

Gott column

I hope some of the doctors in Cape Girardeau read Dr. Gott's column in the Sunday Southeast Missourian from a few Sundays ago. It sure fits a good many of them. They are so arrogant when dealing with patients and don't want to hear any input from us. It's their way or the highway. And when they find out we have good health insurance they put us through the mill with test after test, many of them unnecessary, just to make money.

ESPN's decision

I applaud ESPN for pulling Hank Williams Jr. off Monday Night Football.

Discrimination

DISCRIMINATION is the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people. Could a case be made that forcing the rich to pay a higher tax rate than the average person is a form of discrimination?

Third party

BE prepared to organize and support Sarah Palin, because I'm convinced she will run for president on a third-party ticket.
