I RECENTLY joined the Osage Community Centre workout room. It's very nasty. You think anybody could ever clean that up?
I'M WATCHING the nightly news about our soldiers in Iraq. One guy says the Iraqis are getting smarter about where they're putting their bombs. I wonder how many are sitting over here watching the news and are getting smarter. Tell them everything. Put it on the news. It's ridiculous. No wonder they're getting smarter.
I HAVE two comments. I'd like to thank the Southeast Missourian for putting in the "At the theaters" movie synopses back in the Friday paper. And I know it hasn't been very long ago, but for some reason, all the painted lines on Mount Auburn Road are fading away again. They need to be redone. Maybe the city needs to recheck what kind of paint it uses to make them last a little bit longer.
LET'S SAY I, as a Christian, helped out a family at Christmas in the name of Jesus. Shouldn't the glory and honor be given to him instead of letting people know I was the one who helped? Isn't that like stealing back his glorious honor?
THANK YOU to the wonderful person who found my purse and returned it to management at Hobby Lobby. I appreciate the thoughtfulness and honesty.
WOULD IT be possible for Mayor Jay Knudtson to talk to the right person and get the lines repainted on Mount Auburn Road between Route K and Independence Street? This is one of the busiest intersections in the whole city, and you cannot see any of the lines.
MANY THANKS to my guardian angel who mailed me a very generous gift card. It will be put to good use. I have been so blessed by this loving gesture. There are good, loving and caring people in this world. May God richly bless you.
DAVE RUTHERFORD, chairman of the city's Historic Preservation Commission, was quoted in the paper as saying that it's never more cost-effective to tear down an existing building and build a new one. He is completely wrong. He's obviously never rehabbed a building where you have to deal with bringing the structure up to code or dealing with the EPA concerning asbestos.
I'D GREATLY appreciate it if you could print the Darwin "eye" quote in full. It is oftentimes shortened for the convenience of the creationist argument. The passage in full states: "To suppose that the eye could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree. When it was first said that the sun stood still and the world turned round, the common sense of mankind declared the doctrine false; but the old saying of Vox populi, vox Dei, as every philosopher knows, cannot be trusted in science. Reason tells me, that if numerous gradations from a simple and imperfect eye to one complex and perfect can be shown to exist, each grade being useful to its possessor, as is certainly the case; if further, the eye ever varies and the variations be inherited, as is likewise certainly the case and if such variations should be useful to any animal under changing conditions of life, then the difficulty of believing that a perfect and complex eye could be formed by natural selection, though insuperable by our imagination, should not be considered as subversive of the theory."
IF EITHER of the Bush daughters were in the military, it would be because they volunteered, just like our loved ones did. No one likes the idea of them putting themselves in peril, but that is their job, and they are doing it quite well.
