Special person
I WANT the community to know that there are people who have a heart. I recently lost a dog and offered a reward. This wonderful woman called me after a week and had found my dog. She took him in and took care of him. When she was able to call, I got my dog back. She would not accept a reward. I thank God for people like this.
It's old news
I HAVE heard from more than one source the opinion that since this is the Millers' second child, it is old news to be writing a "He Said/She Said" column about the experience.
Prize-winning idea
IF A Scott County Central-Sikeston basketball game is scheduled, a Pulitzer Prize for sports journalism should go to Toby Carrig for promoting the idea.
Grab the goodies
A SOUTHEAST Missourian editorial described president-elect Obama's proposed stimulus package as "breathtaking." It continued: "You have to wonder how the nation can afford it all," and "it would seem prudent to focus on projects that meet the most basic needs." The unstated message of the editorial is that the editorial board doesn't like the stimulus package because the idea contradicts our political ideology, but if we're going to have one we sure as heck want our fair share.
No more coupons
I THINK it's unfair that some people are unable to receive government coupons for the big switch to digital TV signals. I could understand this situation if it weren't for the fact that not too long ago the government was giving out two coupons per household. If officials would have just given every household one coupon from the start, there'd be plenty to go around now.
System in shambles
AT LEAST I have the strength to call Speak Out. Last weekend I telephoned my primary-care physician. I received a message to phone the doctor who was on call. I did. I received a message from a nurse to leave my name and number. I'm still waiting. I don't know how much longer I can hold out, but I don't want to go to the emergency room because it may be nothing serious and I would have to pay a lot of money, thus reinforcing one of the many reasons our health-care system is in shambles.
