When some 500 volunteers in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program from Scott and Cape Girardeau counties were recently honored at a reception, the sizable contribution of older residents in the area was boldly emphasized.
These volunteers are 55 years old or older. Many have had highly successful careers in a variety of fields. And, while they may be retired, they still have much to contribute.
And how they have contributed!
Just in the past year the volunteers have given more than 80,000 hours to 102 not-for-profit organizations in the area.
At the reception, some of the volunteers talked about their involvement in RSVP. They said RSVP is important, because it keeps senior citizens active and gives them a sense of being needed.
Congratulations to every RSVP volunteer. Your efforts genuinely are appreciated.
