In 1994, Southeast fraternities accepted fewer than 100 new members. But many Greek organizations are working to turn their image around by placing new emphasis on standards of behavior. The change seems to be working. Southeast fraternities pledged just over 200 members this year.

The Sig Eps also returned to campus this fall, but with a much different mindset than traditional fraternities. Hazing and the standard practice of pledging have been banned.

It is unfortunate that the process has been a fairly painful one at Southeast and at many other campuses across the country. The time has come for change, and it is good to see young people embrace stricter standards of behavior.
