There is perhaps no other piece of music better known or appreciated than the "Messiah," written by George Frideric Handel.
The music was written in what is believed to be 24 days. The words, selected from Scripture, were compiled by Charles Jennens.
On Sunday a local choir will perform selections of the oratorio. The performance will be at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. This is a free performance with an offering being collected to support a scholarship for teen musicians. Refreshments will follow the event.
The "Messiah" is an incredible piece of music, with most connecting with it the "Hallelujah" chorus. Though the chorus is part of the Easter portion, the choir also will perform it along with the Christmas selections.
This is a great opportunity to hear some talented voices from the community -- choir members from several churches participate. The oratorio is a look at prophesies of the coming Messiah as told by the Bible.
We hope you make plans to attend.
