Patrons looking for Broussard's Cajun Cuisine at 120 N. Main St. will be surprised when they realize it is not there. They need not be alarmed, however. The 30-year-old Cape Girardeau restaurant has not gone out of business, but it has relocated. Those who have fallen in love with the community staple need only go down the street to 114 N. Main St., and there it will be.
The move brings with it some changes that people are likely to find appealing. Owners Hunter and Stephanie Clark have created a new look, for example. As the Southeast Missourian reported, the new decor "feature[s] an old-world New Orleans style and a rustic, bayou feel."
This new building also provides more space, allowing for a 33 percent increase in tables. It provides both an upper-and lower-level dining area and a balcony, which will be ideal for outdoor dining in warm weather. Additionally, it houses a banquet room, which will be ready for use in a few months. More space means more comfort for customers, and it also means more business for owners. It's a win-win for everyone.
Another change the Clarks made, in anticipation of attracting more people, is the new smoke-free regulation. Sure, some people may be put off by this, but many more will probably appreciate this healthy decision.
Change is good, but loyal customers still want to feel like they're at the old Broussard's, the establishment they have grown to love--and that's what they'll get. They can count on the menu they have grown attached to, colorful murals on the walls and dedicated service that draws them back.
If you are one of those faithful customers, check out the new place. If you have never dined at the Cajun eatery, now is a good time. The staff would love to host you.
"We look forward to serving the public for at least another 30 years," Stephanie Clark said.
