To the editor:

The U.S. Women's Open golf tournament was played at Kohler, Wis., with a playoff between an amateur and a rookie. It was very exiting.

Every year, April through September, local women compete each week at their respective golf courses.

We wish to encourage friends of women's golf to look in each Sunday's sports section for the caption "Area golf." There you will see the weekly results plus results of the many out-of-town tournaments in which local women compete.

We wish to thank Jeff Breer, sports editor, for his support in starting this column and reporting the results. Our club historians know where and when to look for the published results, and we just want him to know how much we appreciate our local women's golf news.
