To the editor:
I recently heard a song entitled "Why Should God Bless America?" This song says what I wonder each day as I watch what is happening to our country. Our ancestors fought and lost their lives for our freedom. But I wonder what they would think of this country now and its so-called freedoms.
They fought for freedom of religion. This country was founded with God. It has survived many a war with the help of God. God is in the pledge of allegiance, and the words "In God We Trust" are written on the American currency. Yet we have taken prayer out of schools and no longer allow it in our graduation ceremonies.
Then there is the so-called freedom of choice. I really wonder what our ancestors would have thought of this particular freedom. It goes against those 10 simple commandments our Lord gave us. Does anyone remember that commandment that states, "Thou shalt not kill"? I don't recall the words "unless you so choose" behind this commandment. Yet our country chooses to kill its unborn for the convenience of the mother.
At first when Roe vs. Wade was passed, the pro-abortion community stated it was not a baby that was being destroyed. It was a clump of cells, product of conception or blob of tissue. We are past that argument. Most of us are well award that it is a fully formed baby being pulled from the mother's womb by its feet until the head reaches the birth canal and it is murdered with a stab of the scissors in the base of the skull and the brains are suctioned out. What can be more brutal? We all know it is a baby. How much longer are we going to sit by and watch as the abortion community and our pro-abortion president not only allow this to happen, but continue to call it a freedom of choice and a right to privacy. What -- or should I say who? -- will be the next victims? The handicapped? The elderly? Jews? Catholics? The homeless? Think about it. What would happen if the so-called pro-lifers who shot and killed the abortion doctors and clinic workers called that their freedom of choice?
I don't believe our ancestors fought for the freedom to murder and called it choice. I believe they fought for the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Why should God bless America? Not only have we twisted our country's laws for convenience, but we have completely forgotten God's laws.
Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.
