To the editor:
I was once asked the question in a self-evaluation test, "If you could meet any living person in the world, who would it be?" I gave this question more consideration than all the other questions on the test. I wanted to be absolutely honest with myself in answering.
As I searched my heart for the most honest answer I could give, the question became a challenge. Would it be the president of the United States? Would it be a king or queen, or perhaps the pope or Billy Graham?
After a long deliberation, I took my pen and wrote the answer: If I could meet any living person in the world, I would want to meet the loneliest person in the world.
What a sad title it would be for a person to hold: the loneliest person in the world. Can anyone imagine how that person would feel if they could actually lay hold to such a claim?
Millions of human beings have thought at some point and time in their life that they were qualified to make such a claim. I would not exclude myself from this march to Lonely Street.
There was once a song titled "Lonely Street." It was about a place where broken hearts meet.
I have said all of the above to inform you who feel lonely, who feel qualified to be the loneliest person in the world, that there is such a place as Lonely Street. The good news is that God takes up residence there, waiting and wanting to fellowship and to heal your broken heart. That is why I wanted to meet the loneliest person in the world: to inform him he need not be lonely any more. God's love will fill that empty spot in his soul and mend that broken heart.
