To the editor:

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838 and its Ladies Auxiliary would like to thank all who participated in our recent Buddy Poppy campaign. We appreciate the publicity your paper gave us and believe it was a contributor to the best campaign we have had. The community recognized this symbolic flower and contributed generously. All proceeds from the Buddy Poppy campaign must be placed in our relief fund to be used only for hospitalized and needy veterans or their families.

Special thanks must go to our volunteers, Boy Scout Troop 5 and their parents, Mayor Al Spradling III, the giving public and the following businesses that allowed the distribution to be conducted on their property: Food Giant, Wal-Mart, Florsheim, Schnucks, Kmart, U.S. Post Office, Sanders True Value, Sam's, Brenda's Place, Thorngate, NationsBank and Sears.

Each of you truly honored the dead by helping the living.
