To the editor:
For quite some time this matter has bothered me. It makes me very sad when I think how someone can go to the cemetery and take whatever he wants from the graves.
I have visited Lightner Cemetery almost daily for almost six years. My husband and two sons are buried there, so it is sacred ground to me and should be to anyone who goes there.
I'm sure more than one person is guilty. A person has no conscience and very little respect when he takes things from graves that have very little value or meaning except to the persons who placed them on their loved ones' graves. Items taken have included vases, flowers, basket hangers, a Christmas tree, several ceramic ornaments and wind chimes.
I am perturbed that someone has the audacity to keep doing this. I try to not be angry, only hurt. I say to that person: "If you can't keep your hands off of other people's property, please stay out of the cemetery. Someday, sooner than you think, it will be your turn. Then you will be the victim. How do you like that? Think about it."
Lightner Cemetery is a very beautiful, well-kept cemetery. Let's respect it and keep it that way.
