All Republicans present, including our representative, and 11 Democrats voted against it. House Bill 1559 would have required that employees doing the same job be paid the same salary. Your readers should know that the Missouri House of Representatives defeated the Missouri Equal Pay act by a vote of 68 to 86 on April 19. All Republicans present, including our representative, and 11 Democrats voted against it.

House Bill 1559 would have required that employees doing the same job be paid the same salary. What could be more fair?

This loss in wages due to inattention or discrimination amounts to $200 million annually for American families, or over $4,000 annually per family. Equal pay could lift many families out of poverty. How can legislators who call themselves pro-family vote against this bill?

The news media have picked up on this issue very little, if at all. But now that you know, let's vote for people who believe in a real democratic work place.
