Editor's note: The following letter to the editor was sent in response to the letter "GOP vs. Obama" that appeared in the March 1 Southeast Missourian.

Campaigning is all Obama knows; he's never run a business. He was and is a community agitator. How do you compromise with ideology the opposite of yours? You don't.

His agenda will not pass legislatively, thus executive orders.

You mention prejudices. Are you referring to skin color? We judge people by the content of their character as did M.L.K. Obama has no redeeming character. The Civil Rights Act would not have passed if not for Republicans. Democrats like Al Gore Sr. and J. William Fullbright, Bill Clinton's mentor, voted against it. There's one black senator; he's a Republican. George Bush's cabinet had more people of color than Obama's by far. We focus on the Constitution.

Regarding talk radio, the most listened-to media venue, there's no vitriol, just facts. Your beliefs have never worked in history; conservatism works every time it's tried.

We do worry about the future of the country. We've strayed so far from our founding documents, I don't know if we can recover. Hate is a word the left uses, not us. The best thing for the people in this country is less government regulation and to teach the freedom mindset our founders left us.

Conservatism is not outdated. We are the majority. We lost the election because people saw a weak candidate and stayed home.
