On Nov. 2 we have an opportunity to make our voices heard. Most of us feel our taxes are high enough and don't really want to increase them. However, I know something of the need at Jackson High School. I have a student there and more coming up. The district is not wasting the money it receives. When the district has a need, it asks for help.

I see the crowded conditions and the inadequate facilities the students accept as normal as less than acceptable. I see the plans to improve the campus and am surprised it won't cost more. People get accustomed to what they have always known, and change is almost always uncomfortable.

We have paid property taxes for years that we think are high enough. People who have always lived in this area have no idea how low our property taxes are. Those of us who have moved into the area know what a treasure it is to live here.

This request for an increase in our property tax to support the bond issue is only 35 cents a day for a house valued at $100,000. That is not too much to ask to ensure the quality of our schools for the future. This is an investment in our community.

When schools are excellent, people want to be part of the community. Let's show our community just how supportive we are for our kids and our town. Let's vote yes for the schools.
