Another important observance is being held today: It is Missouri Day for residents of the Show Me State.
Missouri Day, first celebrated in 1915, is set by state statute "as a day commemorative of Missouri history to be observed the teachers and pupils of schools with the appropriate exercises."
In addition, this is the day for Missourians "to devote some part of the day to the methodical consideration of the products of the mines, fields and forests of the state and to the consideration of the achievements of the sons and daughters of Missouri in commerce, literature, statesmanship, science and art, and in other departments of activity in which the state as rendered service to mankind."
Well said.
It is with particular pleasure that the Missourian invites its readers to join in the observance of Missouri Day, because this year the newspapers is marking its 90th anniversary at the same time.
Happy Missouri Day.
