I am the facilitator of a Parkinson's Support Group that has been meeting for more than 15 years. One of our charter members, David Robertson, passed away Nov. 10 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease which he lived with for more than 30 years. David was an inspiration to so many individuals who lived with this disease. He also contributed greatly to the group's knowledge about the disease in providing information on cutting edge research and treatments. He will be greatly missed...

I want to also acknowledge David's wife, Carol Robertson, who exemplified the art of caregiving. More than 65 million family caregivers in this country fulfill a vital role on the care team. Family caregiving is the bedrock upon which this country's health care system depends. Carol showed much resilience in advocating for David as he battled in his final years.

November has been recognized as National Family Caregivers Month during which we honor the millions of Americans who give endlessly of themselves to provide for the health and well-being of a beloved family member. Through their countless hours of service to their families and communities, they are a shining example of our nation's great capacity to care for each other. I encourage all to pay tribute to those like Carol Robertson who have provided care for a loved one in need.
