Get involved in new bridge

The completion of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge will be a historic event. There are several events people can participate in to make the whole bridge experience more entertaining.

Jot down these numbers and become a bridge builder of sorts.

Oct. 31: "What a Bridge Means to Me" essay contest. Call John Mehner at 335-3312.

Oct. 31: Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge song-writing event. Call Teresa Morrill at 334-7800.

Oct. 31: Photography competition and exhibition, "Highways, Waterways and Railways: Transportation along the Mississippi." Call Pat Patterson at 335-5197.

The date of the final event isn't set in stone, but organizers are hoping for Dec. 13 to be the day of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge dedication ceremony. Events will include a ceremony to honor those present at the dedication of the old bridge and a run, walk and bike on the River Campus grounds.
