To the editor:
I read the Speak Out comments about Jackson wanting a skatepark like the one here in Farmington. One comment tried to compare Cape Girardeau and Jackson to Farmington.
Farmington has a skatepark made from the former city pool that was built during the Depression.
We also have a civic center and a water park. We also have Wal-Mart, J.C. Penney and Lowe's here and soon will be getting Dexter Bar-B-Que.
But we wouldn't mind a Target up here as well as a commercial television station so Southeast Missouri could see what's going on in Farmington.
The Cape area has Eagle Ridge Christian School, Deer Creek Christian Academy and Cape Christian School as well as Notre Dame Regional High School and Saxony Lutheran High School and Cape and Jackson public schools.
In Farmington, we had St. Joseph Catholic High School till it closed in 1967 and two Christian schools till one closed in 1989 and the last one closed in 2002. But we do have St. Joseph Catholic School and St. Paul's Lutheran School whose students go to Farmington Senior High School after the eighth grade. And we have the Farmington School District, which has received recognition from the state every year.
So I would like to tell everyone in Cape and Jackson who compare their towns with Farmington: Thanks for the compliments.
