Delta School District voters last week overwhelmingly approved a $200,000 bond issue to enable the district to carry out various improvements, including replacement of gymnasium heating units and a new gym roof, a new bus, a new bus garage and furniture for the elementary school.

The improvements will be made without increasing taxes. Instead, $985,000 in bond held by the district will be refinanced at a lower interest rate, and the savings will cover the cost of the improvements.

That makes good business sense in a small school district where funds are sometimes hard to come by. Passage of the issue is another in many that have gained approval in area school districts lately. Good economic times are partly responsible, but voters also saw a workable and sensible method of bringing about the badly needed improvements.
