Oat bran is God's gift for good health, but too many carbohydrates aren't good. Margarine is better for you than butter -- oh, wait, margarine is dangerous too. Don't drink at all, or drink one glass of red wine a day.

A study recently printed in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that the nation is sick of conflicting diet advice. More than 40 percent surveyed said they were tired of being told what they should and shouldn't eat.

The study also found that the higher the backlash level -- or the more sick of dietary advice people were -- the higher the level of fat in their diets.

What an interesting phenomenon, especially in light of the fact that, until sometime in the last century, the focus was mostly on simply getting enough to eat.

Of course, the answer to today's diet problems, as in everything, is moderation.

Have a fine meal. Have a rich dessert. But don't have them every day.
