The Cape Girardeau City Council is to be congratulated for its decision to pave Jasmine Street. Jasmine was originally on the list of streets to be paved as part of the transportation sales-tax projects approved last year, but it was removed recently when it was discovered the roadway wasn't technically a street.
But the real issue was one of trust. The street had been advertised as one that would be paved if the transportation sales tax was approved. The council made matters right by reinstating Jasmine to the paving schedule.
Council action on this small project extended beyond a handful of property owners affected. All citizens benefit from a city government that works to safeguard credibility and trust.
