To their chagrin, the residents discovered the one small no-parking sign left on their street after New Madrid Street improvements was unenforceable because there was no city ordinance to back it up.

But after reading a petition from residents, city manager Michael Miller signed an emergency regulation barring anyone from parking on the west side of Park Avenue. The city council likely will make the regulation permanent within the required 90 days.

It's good to see city government work so quickly to the benefit of the affected residents.
