It may sound odd, but folks in Springfield, Mo., are debating the merits of deer hunting -- not in the nearby wooded Ozarks, but inside the city limits.
Some bow hunters, it seems, are trying to halt a proposed ordinance that would ban archery hunting in Springfield. One issue is the overpopulation of deer.
A good many Missourians are old enough to remember when the deer population in the Show Me state all but disappeared. Thanks to careful conservation practices and regulated hunting, there are plentiful deer throughout the state.
As for the bow hunters, surely they can contribute to the balance of man and nature by stalking their prey outside the city limits.
