To the editor:
Paul Greenberg is clearly an apologist for a warmongering administration that is riddled with Project for a New American Century personnel. Under the guise of promoting freedom and democracy, this group seems bent on employing U.S. military power in a perpetual war to achieve global domination to serve corporate America. Greenberg would have us believe that the war against Iraq was driven by a judgment that the world would be a better place without Saddam Hussein in power. Like Bush, Greenberg is rewriting history.
Bush did not go before the United Nations, Congress and the American people arguing that Americans should be sacrificed to make the world a slightly better place. He knew this was not persuasive. He claimed that Saddam Hussein posed an immediate danger to the world because of links to al-Qaida and imminent chemical, biological and nuclear attacks. He persuaded Americans that attacking Iraq was equivalent to defending against Osama bin Laden. We now learn that this was either exaggerated or concocted. Congress and the American people deserve a full, open and bipartisan congressional investigation.
Dismissing legitimate criticism of this administration as fraudulent will not deter the American people from demanding a full accounting. The deception and distortion central to the Iraq invasion extend to the environment, health care, education and taxation. We need to be rescued from an arrogant and self-righteous president who argues that he is guided by direct advice he receives from God.
