To the editor:
If you can scream, jump around and dress in a freakish manner, you have it made in the music world today. You are considered great -- but not by me or many others.
Perhaps the behavior often seen on television today is due in part to unrest in the world. Emotions can be aroused by various situations. Children are often tempted to run wildly and dance at open-air concerts.
Recently, I heard a moving and beautiful rendition of "The Impossible Dream" on Dr. Robert Schuller's "Hour of Power." The emotion seen on the face of the man playing the piano was very pronounced and real. He was seated, not jumping around and screaming. The tune had beauty, not nonsense.
Today we look forward to a new, improved and exciting way of life. The door has opened, and a whole new world lies ahead in the field of music and art that will bring more respect, dignity and style. Never before has Cape Girardeau had an opportunity for the expansion into an era of music as the Southeast Missouri State University Campus for the Performing and Visual Arts promises. Many skilled, fresh minds and much expertise play a major part in making this possible.
This is a changing world. Accept it and enjoy it. That's what I intend to do.
