November is a month we often think of the people and things we're thankful for. For some, things to be thankful for are basic like overcoming substance abuse.
At the Gibson Recovery Center Inc.'s Vision House program, women can stay for 21 to 90 days to rise above these challenges and look for employment. About 11 women received a nice treat recently when they received a makeover that included hair styling, makeup and having eyebrows done for free by local businesses.
These women are grateful for the opportunity, which helps them build confidence as they enter the workforce.
"It was so wonderful. I feel so much better about myself, and whenever you look good you feel good and I'm just so excited about it; it was great," said Kimberly, whose last name was omitted from the Southeast Missourian because of federal health privacy regulations.
And she was not the only thankful lady. Another called it "fun" and "a confidence-booster."
Thank you to the Gibson Recovery Center for the work its team does in helping those who have dealt with substance abuse. Also a special thank you to the businesses who volunteered their time and resources to make this service available to the residents.
We all have much to be thankful for, and seeing others with newfound hope and confidence is good place to begin.
