The name Drury is prominently displayed on hotels across the country. The Drury brothers and their extended families are well-known in the Cape Girardeau area for their business acumen and their emphasis on providing high-quality services. Drury hotels, for example, are consistently recognized nationally for customer satisfaction.
Another side of the Drurys is their dedication to the communities they serve, particularly in Southeast Missouri. Over the years their contributions -- some public, some not -- have had a lasting impact.
Earlier this month, Robert Drury, president of Drury Southwest Inc., was on hand for a ceremony in Poplar Bluff, Mo., where a substantial parcel of real estate was donated to Three Rivers Community College.
The multimillion-dollar gift includes the former Pear Tree Inn and a nearby restaurant. The community college's president, Dr. Devin Stephenson, said the property could be used for a work-force solutions center and a culinary arts program.
Higher education relies heavily on the generosity of individuals who find ways to enhance and upgrade programs and facilities. Robert Drury was made an honorary alumnus in recognition of his gift to Three Rivers Community College.
