Medicare sign-up and help session planned

The Area Agency on Aging will hold a Medicare D sign-up to help seniors select the proper drug plan. Seniors can only add, drop or change coverage during open enrollment for Part D plans, Nov. 15 through Dec. 31. Staff will be available to sign people up for MoRx and Extra-Help so they can save money on Part D expenses. The sign-up and help event will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 16. To schedule and appointment call Jackie at the Area Agency on Aging 335-3331, or 800-392-8771. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred.

Poster and journalism contests underway

The Governor's Council on Disability will hold a journalism and poster contest themed "The Americans with Disabilities Act -- Celebrating 20 Years of Opportunity." The essay or poster art should display or describe activities or situations that demonstrate the inclusion of people with disabilities and how this leads to opportunities for everyone. Missouri students in grades seven through 12 may enter the contest. The deadline for submitting entries is Feb. 22.

Oran celebrates 'The Game' anniversary

A celebration of the 40th anniversary of "The Game" has been planned to honor the Oran High School basketball players and cheerleaders from 1969, when Oran was 35-0 and coached by Gene Bess. The banquet will start at 6 p.m. with a dinner at 7 p.m. Nov. 27, following the Gatorade Game, or the former Soap Game, in the Oran Elementary School Cafeteria. County genealogical society selling books

The Cape Girardeau County Genealogical Society will have several book sales at the Cape Girardeau County Archive Center, 112 E. Washington St., in Jackson with a variety of new and used books for genealogists to purchase. The book sales will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, Nov. 20 and 8:30 p.m. Nov. 24.
