Delta Elementary School students will benefit from a local farmer's good fortune. Charles Hinkebein of Chaffee, Mo., has been selected as a winner in the America's Farmers Grow Communities program, which gave farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local not-for-profit organizations. The Monsanto Fund, which sponsors the program, expects to invest more than $3 million in local communities, a news release said. Hinkebein has designated the donation to the first- and second-grade classes at Delta Elementary School. The district plans to use the donation to help purchase new desks and chairs. Hinkebein said he knew the classes could use the furniture because his daughter is a teacher at the school and his granddaughter is a first-grader.
