Jan. 31, 1949 Southeast Missourian

Frigid temperatures of 5 degrees above zero and an unexpected 2-inch snowfall on Jan. 30, 1949, delighted ice skaters at Capaha Park. Virtually the first snow of the season, the cold temps caused Capaha Park lagoon to freeze over and gave youngsters their first chance to try out their ice skating skills. (G.D. Fronabarger photo)
