Still worried about this weekend
The computer models are flip-flopping about the chance for heavy rain this weekend. Right now, it appears that the heaviest rains (3+ inches) will stay just to our south. We could easily see over an inch at Cape Girardeau, however, on Saturday and Sunday. Of course this forecast could change in a hurry.
Here's the current rainfall projection for the next 5 days:
Since last Friday, Cape Girardeau has received 14.98 inches. The highest official total I've been able to find in Missouri is at a station near Poplar Bluff with a storm total of 16.20 inches. Springdale, Arkansas, picked up a whopping 19.73 inches.
Yesterday's unbelievable tornado swarm across the South appears to be the worst tornado outbreak (in terms of fatalities) since 1974. Jeff Masters at Wunderground.com has good coverage on his blog.
