The Single Life
Living alone in your late years or raising children alone as a single parent can create a sense of isolation and despair for individuals. Living "the single life" brings with it financial struggles and challenges in daily living.
Mrs. B is an elderly woman who struggles with high blood pressure and is constrained to a wheelchair. With no family support around, she counts on the support of her caretakers and with limited income, her SSI check provides the bare essentials with no additional money left over for the basics. Mrs. B has not had a new pair of blue jeans in years, she would like size 16-18 jeans for Christmas, new bedding for a Full size bed, and a new robe and slippers. Additional needs are laundry detergent and supplies, towels and washcloths, and warm socks for her feet.
"Pam" is a single mom raising three boys; ages 2, 10, and 12. "Pam" has her own in house day care so that she can care for her own child and be there after school for her two older boys. In efforts to keep day care costs down for others in need, her daily charge covers only the expense of rent, groceries, and basic utilities. "Pam" wants her children to have a wonderful holiday, but her income limits her ability to provide gifts for Christmas. Her boys enjoy sports, specifically Football - they are big fans of the Raiders! They also like NERF guns and the two older boys would enjoy Skateboards. "Pam's" youngest son likes books, fire engines, and would like to have his very own tricycle.
With the ice and snow keeping so many in and the deadline quickly approaching, Toybox and Christmas for the Elderly are desperately in need of your donations. Please consider making us part of your holiday giving!
