- Trappers convention: The Missouri State Trappers Association will hold its 50th anniversary convention at Arena Park. It will run from today to Sunday, and the event opened today at 6:30 a.m.
Soccer
- Start smart program: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor Start Smart Soccer, an introductory program for children ages 3 to 5 that prepares children and their parents for organized soccer. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Osage Community Centre beginning this Wednesday. Parents should attend ready to participate. - Wood 'n' Whites tournament: The Cape Area Tennis Association will host its annual Wood 'n' Whites tournament Sept. 27 at the Southeast Missouri State tennis facility. The doubles tournament is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The age of the partners must total 90 years, players must wear all white and they must play with wooden rackets. Cost: $60 per team. Volleyball
- Co-ed leagues: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is accepting teams for its co-ed volleyball leagues, which will start Oct. 7. There will be Tuesday night leagues and Wednesday night leagues at the Osage Community Centre. There will be a competitive league and a non-competitive league each night. There will be a managers meeting Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Osage Community Centre. Deadline: Friday. Cost: $245, which covers officials, awards, T-shirts and equipment.
