Cape Girardeau's zoning ordinance has been under review for months. That process led to an overhaul that has been approved by the planning and zoning commission. Now it is up to the city council to take final action.
As part of the process, the city council will have a meeting next week to consider the zoning revisions. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at city hall. A public hearing, part of the formal review process, also will be held Tuesday night.
According to a public notice published by the city in the Southeast Missourian: "The proposed update revises the current zoning ordinance, including the addition of some new zoning districts, the removal of some existing zoning districts, the addition of supplement regulations and other significant changes. The zoning map for the city is also being revised, changing the zoning of some properties within the city. The proposed update to the text and map is available for review through the city website: www.cityofcapegirardeau.org. Additional information can also be obtained by calling the Planning Services Office at 339-6326."
In the next week, the Southeast Missourian will be looking at the details of the proposal. Now is the time to voice your opinion on this important topic.
