Use influence for port dredging

Recently Representative Emerson complained to the Army Corps of Engineers about their refusal to dredge the SEMO Regional Port. Apparently the corps, as part of the federal government, doesn't have the money ($250,000) for the project.

Maybe a nongovernmental solution could be applied.

The Congressional Hunger Center is a $3 million Emerson earmark beneficiary based in Washington, D.C. Jo Ann is listed as the CHC's board co-chair.

The Congressional Hunger Center received a $250,000 grant from ConAgra Foods Foundation in 2009. According to their website, "This initiative will fund the field and policy placements of four Emerson National Hunger Fellows."

I recommend Ms. Emerson use her Washington connections to get money donated to the port from one of the large agribusinesses that benefit from federal agricultural subsidies. This CHC donation demonstrates ConAgra has the capacity to help us here in Missouri as well.
