Today marks the 55th anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day, a day that will live in infamy.
We pause to remember the more than 3,000 Americans who died in that surprise raid by the Japanese. That attack thrust the United States into World War II. For 45 months, Americans sacrificed on the battlefield and at home. By war's end, more than 400,000 U.S. servicemen and women had died.
As America pays tribute to the Pearl Harbor survivors, we must also remember the lessons of that day. This country is not exempt from aggression. America must not let down its guard ever again. We must keep the vigil of Pearl Harbor.
