To the Editor:
As a graduate of St. Vincent's Seminary I would like to urge the people of Cape Girardeau to help save this admirable facility through the Colonial Cape Girardeau Foundation.
This dwelling, of course, has a special place in my heart in how it and the Vincentian priests have helped assemble a solid foundation in my life and the lives of thousands of young men over the past 150 years. I surmise the forefathers of St. Vincent's never envisioned how intensely this facility would enrich many lives for so many years.
Though not progressing with a religious vocation, I am so indebted for not only the education I received, but the values of life and friendships I obtained. Being one of the oldest schools west of the Mississippi River there is an immense, rich history to this facility.
Yet, that is history; more significant is now and the future. You, the civic leaders and residents of Cape Girardeau, can achieve what the original forefathers of this institution did. You have the capacity to father an exquisite facility by assisting the Colonial Cape Girardeau Foundation. Located on one of the most tranquil, picturesque locations in Missouri, this facility can be returned in essence to one of its original missions, education.
By being a museum and cultural center, you are utilizing one of the most magnificent and culturally rich assets in your community. Please, have the perspective to look at what this site can provide not only you, but visitors to your community. This can be a center of culture and learning for you and your children for generations to come.
