To the editor:
I believe the kids who helped save the lives of the people in the apartment in Jackson Friday evening need to be recognized for the wonderful, brave thing they did.
My daughter and three of her friends were coming home around 11:30 p.m. My daughter saw what she believed to be a grill on fire and then realized the fire was inside the house. They called 911.
My daughter called me, frantic and screaming, "Mom, can you hear the sirens?" She said there was a house on fire and people were inside. I could hear lots of yelling. Some of their guy friends stopped and helped pull the people out of the windows.
These kids are only 16 and 17 years old. The girls returned home after the horrible ordeal and spent most of the night crying. They had just gone to Rhodes and bought candy. So they gave some of the fire victims their candy and the couple of dollars they had. This was quite an ordeal for teenagers.
We always hear about the bad kids and the horrible things that they do. Maybe if we would praise the good kids for the good and brave things they do, we would have more kids wanting to be better people.
