IN THE DEC. 24 edition of Speak Out there are two blatantly incorrect usages of the word there in the comment about Bush sending military personnel to Saudi Arabia. I hope Santa brought your proofreader a pair of glasses and a book on the English language because she or he really needs both. Thank you.
THANK GOD NANCY Cruzan is finally at peace. All these church groups and so-called religious groups were rallying around to try to get her back onto force feeding. But I'd like to know where these groups were when Nancy and her family really needed them to rally around them and help before such a devastating crisis. I know what I'm talking about. These people say I'll pray for you, I'll pray; but they never stay. Thank you.
I WAS CALLING in regards to the person who called Speak Out about greeting cards and who would want them. Our organization, SEMO Alliance For Disability Independence, would like to have them. All they have to do is call 334-1959. Thanks a lot.
THE PERSON in Wednesday's paper who said CDs are stupid is completely wrong. CDs are the best thing out right now. They're also wrong about tapes being $5 or less. I don't think so. Who you going to buy for $5? Thanks.
I JUST WANT to thank the gentleman who stopped Christmas Eve morning and helped me with my car. I was coming into Cape from Jackson and my tire suddenly blew out, and I got it over to the side of the road. I was going to go call my husband and the gentleman stopped and asked if he could help me. He got down in the cold snow and changed the tire for me. I just want to say, God bless you, Joe. Thank you.
I'M FROM OLATHE, Kan., which is just southwest of Kansas City. I come down here to visit my parents often, and the last time I came in I thought it was awfully interesting that gas was $1.16 here. Over in Kansas we have higher taxes on gas than Missouri does, and just on the east side of the line in Kansas City it's 99 cents a gallon. In Olathe it's $1.10, which we consider pretty high. I thought it was so interesting coming down here to Cape Girardeau and seeing that you're still paying $1.16 a gallon. That really doesn't make any sense because it's always been cheaper here, at least it used to be. Thank you very much.
I WAS MISQUOTED in your Speak Out column on Wednesday, Dec. 26. The Army Times stated that they predicted a casualty count of 16 percent if war broke out in the Persian Gulf, not 60 percent, as you stated. Thank you.
WE BELIEVE THAT Kelley Transportation Co. is doing probably the best they can in this situation with the weather. However, Cape Girardeau has expanded greatly and the cab company has not. Since the city has gotten into the trash business and seems to be doing fine, we believe they should also get into the cab business and make sure that during this kind of weather, in particular, and when the college is in session that Cape Girardeau residents have adequate service. Thank you.
WHY DO YOU print the negative comments about Dan Rather but you won't print the rebuttal to those negative comments? That's really not fair.
We haven't received any recent comments praising Rather. Had we received any we would have published them.
I WOULD LIKE to remark on the lady who wrote or called in about the president sending our soldiers to Saudi Arabia. I agree that it is bad that they cannot have Bibles and our flag cannot be flown, but my prayers are with those people and I'm proud of them every time I see them on the news. I'm glad that they're there to protect the way of life that we have here. Yes, we have problems here in the United States, but we must realize that in order to have the prosperity here, we must take care of issues abroad. Thank you.
HERE I AM watching my cable Weather Channel again and up in the northwest corner of Missouri there's these little letters VIH. I sure would like to know what town this is.
The letters "VIH" are not in the northwest corner of Missouri, but rather in the northwest corner of the picture as they appear on your screen for the regional radar on the Weather Channel. They are an aviation abbreviation for Vichy, which is an airport north of Rolla.
LAST WEEK ON TV Peter Kinder stated that questions to Speak Out get answered within a week to 10 days, something like that. Well, I've been calling in Speak Out for over a month liking to know where you can buy (a product). Peter, if you don't have the answer, could you ask Don Pritchard? Maybe he'd know where we can get (the product). Thanks.
Since Speak Out is not intended as a shopper's guide, we don't answer questions about where products may be purchased, nor do we publish comments concerning where they may be bought.
I'D LIKE TO THANK a fellow who gave me a ride to work this morning. It's nice outside when you don't have to drive in it. But he saved me cab fare and a cold walk. I sure thank you, Randy.
