THIS PERTAINS TO the gossipers in our society. I thoroughly agree with Mike Seib's article, Pin Talk, in the Nov. 26 paper. I moved away from here a number of years and returned because of the good schools here for my children. Now I must say I do believe gossip is the main subject for most meetings, whether they be private clubs, church circles, community socials, business meetings or just plain backyard gossip. It is not just petty gossip, but gossip that is intended to really throw someone's character, family life, or public position. They use harassing telephone calls to infringe on private lives and to relieve them of just plain jealously. There should be a law passed to make gossip a misdemeanor, and they should be punished like a thief because they are stealing the victim's reputation and home contentment, which is really what the object is. A liar can do more harm in one day with a malicious tongue, and they do not even know what they are trying to prove. I wonder if they ever heard of the Ten Commandments. Down with gossipers. Thank you, Mike Seib, for telling it exactly like it is, and thank you, Speak Out, for publishing this.
For those who didn't read Seib's Nov. 26 column, the topic was not gossip, as the caller leads one to believe. It was about the conduct of some people at a bowling event in Kennett. Seib's point could just as easily have been made by saying the people were sitting around talking instead of gossiping. The column had absolutely nothing to do with gossipers.
I HAVE COME to the conclusion that I can no longer watch channel 12 TV. The news that these people have on is just repeat after repeat after repeat. If it's not the earthquake they're talking about, it's Hussein and the Middle East. I think it's time that they laid this to rest and do away with one of these newscasts. They're only doing this because channel 6 started this years ago. At least channel 6 has different news on.
I'D JUST LIKE to say that this gas price thing from Saudi Arabia is not what it all seems. Sikeston has had their gas anywhere from $1.02 to $1.12 in the last month. It seems funny that Sikeston gets their gas from the same people Cape does, but Sikeston can sell their's for $1.02.9 a gallon, $1.05.9 a gallon, or $1.11.9 a gallon. Even Scott City can sell their's for $1.19, and Cape can't go below $1.24? Come on, people, wake up.
WHO CAN HELP me understand more about the War Powers Act? How long has it been in existence? Why was it created and what can we as ordinary interested citizens do to get rid of it? I have heard several scholars say lately on TV that it's very likely unconstitutional, and I would like to get something done about it. Thank you.
Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution gives only Congress the power to declare war. The Constitution was drafted in 1787. Article 5 of the Constitution describes how it may be amended.
