Stop the paddling

I READ in last week's Southeast Missourian that there was some talk going on about changing the paddling laws as far as the children in the schools are concerned, and I think it is a great idea. I think that we should be teaching our children to solve their problems and to mediate and to talk about things rather than forcing ourselves on them.

Who's on trial?

IS O.J. SIMPSON on trial, or is the L.A. Police Department on trial and the witnesses on trial? Sounds funny to me that they are trying the police department and the witnesses instead of trying O.J.

Heidi and the big city

HEIDI NIELAND is witty, talented and imaginative. Cape is a larger city than Sikeston. However, I believe a major eastern city would be more receptive to her weird, far-out comments.

Moving out of Cape

I MOVED FROM a big town. My family lives in Cape Girardeau and suggested I move here. I moved here, and I am moving right back out, because as long as there are strip bars and stuff going on, I don't want my children living here. And I've heard a lot of people already talk about they don't want to be in this town either. I am very ashamed of Cape Girardeau.

Reply to dancer:

TO THE DANCER who said if women would spend more time at home making themselves look good and that we are insecure about ourselves if we protest about what you are doing: Well, hon, think again. We don't have to have three inches of makeup on, false eyelashes and appear practically nude in public to keep our boyfriends and husbands. They may go and look at you as a spectacle, but you'll never be one of their wives or girlfriends. They'll come home to homely women like us. Wake up, put your clothes on, get a decent job and you will have what the majority of women want: self-respect.

Questionable quote

I'M CALLING ABOUT the protest sign pictured on Saturday's front page. Just what does "Thou shall not uncover thy nakedness" mean, and where in the world did he get that quote.

City of trash

THE CITY of roses should be called the city of trash. I admire the people who protested the opening of Regina's House of Dolls. I'm with you.

Notre Dame sports

I AM appalled by the way the Southeast Missourian handles the sports page. Cape Central gets all the lines, all the credits, all the big spaces. And what does Notre Dame get? A little section at the bottom not saying anything. I think Notre Dame people buy this paper just as much as Cape Central kids, and I would like to see Notre Dame with some headlines.
