I WAS reading the paper about Steve Wright's reading skills and his stammering as he talked. That has nothing to do with a person's honesty or a person's intelligence. I believe Mr. Wright is honest, and I believe he's intelligent, and I would rather have someone who's honest and intelligent as someone, who, after caught, would go ahead and refund the money that they should not have been entitled to in the first place.
I RECYCLE avidly, and I don't recycle in order to help the city of Cape in any way, shape or form. I recycle to help humanity in general and to help our environment and to help our world be a better place to live and not use up our natural resources. That should be a person's main reason for recycling and not get vindictive about it when other people don't. It's their loss, not yours. You keep recycling because you know you're doing the right thing.
I THINK the Central Jazz Band and Rock Ensemble should do another show, because a lot of people missed something really good and it would give them a second chance to see it. It was great.
I FULLY agree that the city provides no incentive to recycle. Because I only have one bag to put out, I'm charged the same as my neighbor who has three. In fact, sometimes my neighbor has four and five that sit in front of my house. I think we need to be charged per bag and then people would think about what it costs them to be so wasteful.
I'VE JUST come in and read the Sports section in Friday's paper about the baseball games. It tells about Sikeston and Jackson playing ball and tells about both teams and the players and a little bit what went on in the game. Then I go to the Scott City and Kelly scores, Scott City 10-1, Scott City pounded victory over Kelly Hawks Thursday afternoon. That's the only time Kelly was mentioned in that whole article. All it says is how Scott City played and all everything they did, but it never mentions nothing. Kelly didn't do a whole lot, I suppose, by getting beat 10-1, but they didn't even mention the pitcher. They had to do something to get one run.
LAST SATURDAY I was in Cape and couldn't find the place I wanted to go. So I stopped at a house and asked a man if he could help me. After I told him where I wanted to go, he just said he would drive his car to that address and for me to follow him. I am very grateful for his kindness. There really are nice people in the world, and I thank him.
FOR THE past couple of weeks, I have been remembering Eva Rust and the beautiful lady that she was, beautiful in mind and spirit and love for her family and friends. I read the comments by Jon K. Rust, and I totally agree with her philosophy: "If you can't say something good about someone, don't say anything." It would be a far better world if all of us humans would follow that old adage, but what do we get from Jon's column and other journalism in the Southeast Missourian? Mostly criticism of those whom they do not favor. Certainly very little of anything positive. Speak Out is vicious. It is causing dissension in our community. It creates hate. It is negative and should be terminated.
